The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Sunday that a Russian minor had been detained due to the threat of a terrorist attack in a Moscow park. The warning regarding the threat originated from the United States, according to the Interfax news agency.
The day before, on Saturday, the FSB reported that it had received information from the US via established partner channels regarding the preparation of an attack in Moscow and was taking appropriate measures. The security service's statement highlighted: "We are grateful to the American side for the information provided."
According to the FSB, the minor had posted photographs on the social media network TikTok showing him wearing tactical clothing and a balaclava while holding an object resembling an automatic weapon. He also posted photographs taken in the Moscow Historical Museum and Carichino Park with the caption: "I have found the place".
During a search of the minor's home, officials found the clothing and equipment seen in the social media posts. On his phone, they discovered a subscription to a neo-Nazi channel on the Telegram application, as well as a "significant number of searches related to terrorist attacks, mass killings and other violent acts".
The Russian Investigative Committee is considering what legal or procedural steps to take. The Carichino complex is located in the southern part of Moscow, and was temporarily closed on Saturday after the warning from the US was received.
