Queensland has recorded a five-year high of 92 child deaths in care, according to new data. The Queensland Family Commission published its annual report on Friday, stating a total of 452 children had died.
Among them were 102 children of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent. The report found that 94 children died from 'external causes', including 28 deaths by suicide and 13 from other causes.

Meanwhile, 67 properties are set to be sold by the Labor government to raise funds, including the Victoria Barracks in Sydney. This is a complex established in 1840. The sale of defence sites, announced in February, is expected to raise A$1.8 billion.

Operators of drones across New South Wales have spotted 1,225 sharks. The sightings prompted 360 safety measures, including evacuations from the water, warnings to swimmers and surfers, and the deployment of inflatable boats and jet skis. The state operation by Surf Life Saving New South Wales recorded 49,000 flights, totalling 16,150 hours and 343,000 kilometres. The NSW government released these figures on Sunday as it launched 'the largest and most advanced shark surveillance program in the world' ahead of the school holidays.
