McLaren Automotive has announced an investment of £500 million to expand its production, engineering and operational capabilities in the United Kingdom. This is a step that is part of the broader commitment of the company’s majority shareholder, which aims to transform the business for the next phase of growth.

The company is majority-owned by the UAE government’s CYVN Holdings, which is now under the L’IMAD fund. The planned investment will accelerate the development of new models, and the expansion of the business includes the construction of a new vehicle assembly plant in the UK.

The launch of a new model in an previously unserved segment has been confirmed – a high-performance SUV. This marks the beginning of a systematic expansion of the portfolio beyond its well-known supercars.

McLaren Automotive will, for the first time in its history, design and produce powertrains within the United Kingdom, starting with two new engines and their associated gearboxes. This move directly supports the development of hybrid engines, continuing the trajectory started with the McLaren P1.

The company is expanding its operations at the McLaren Production Centre in Woking and the carbon fibre research and production centre in South Yorkshire. A design and innovation centre has recently opened in Bicester, and a vehicle testing and development facility in the Midlands.

The implementation of the programme will ensure the creation of at least 1,000 new direct and indirect jobs by 2032 within McLaren, with up to 3,000 additional jobs in the wider supply chain. The investment strengthens the company’s expertise in advanced manufacturing, the application of carbon fibre and vehicle weight reduction technologies, while ensuring that intellectual property remains on British soil.
