The City of Split published a tender on 22 October for the repair of the Spaladium Arena roof. The estimated value of the works is €935,000 excluding VAT, or €1,168,750 including VAT, and interested contractors can submit their bids by 12 November 2026.

The expected contract duration is three months from the contractor's entry into the site. The roof of the main hall is covered with a hydro-insulation membrane approximately 15 years old, which is the main reason for initiating the repair.

The roof of the small hall and the substation has a total area of 1,735 square metres, and only temporary insulation has been installed on it, causing rainwater to penetrate the building. A flat roof of 810 square metres next to the small hall will also be repaired, beneath which are sports facilities where damage caused by moisture is visible.

Split Mayor Tomislav Šuta previously announced the possibility of holding the first events in the Spaladium Arena as early as January 2027. The arena was built for the 2009 World Handball Championship and was closed at the end of 2022. The City of Split took it over in March 2026 after purchasing bank claims for five million euros.

The total value of investments in three major sports complexes is estimated at €72.7 million, of which the state is expected to secure €54.5 million. This concerns the renovation and modernisation of the Spaladium Arena, the Gripe Sports Centre and the Park Mladeži, with funds from the state budget provided for the period from 2027 to 2029. Split is expected to host the European University Games in 2028.
