The reconstruction and extension of the sports hall at Osnovna škola Konjščina (Konjščina Primary School) has officially begun: the contractor was handed the site on Thursday. The total value of the project is 5,099,000 euros.
The existing hall will be demolished. In its place, pupils from the primary and secondary schools, as well as local associations, will have access to a new three-part hall.
The project is part of the national reform to adapt schools to single-shift teaching, with grant funding secured through a public call amounting to 1,782,145 euros. The new hall will have 360 seated places, dimensions of 59.5 by 49.5 meters, and a total gross area of 2,304 square meters, while the auxiliary spaces of the existing building will be renovated in accordance with the 2022 standards for primary schools.
The works will be carried out by MDK Građevinar, whose bid was assessed as the most economically advantageous among the four received. The contract, valued at 4,855,513 euros, is for a period of 16 months: 15 months are allocated for the works, with the final month reserved for the technical inspection and handover of the facility. The technical supervision has been entrusted to Solum inženjering for 32,250 euros, and the design supervision to Armond, which is also the main designer, for 26,000 euros.
The head of the regional administrative department for public procurement and EU funds, Vlatka Mlakar, highlighted that this is one of a series of projects within the single-shift teaching reform, noting that four procurement procedures were conducted for this investment, three of which were open and one was a negotiated procedure.
The school’s director, Dragan Roksandić, thanked the Krapina-Zagoria County, the county governor, the local municipality, and the ministry. “I believe that all works will proceed according to plan and that the contractor will complete the work to a high standard within the stipulated time, so that our pupils can play in their new sports hall from 2028,” said Roksandić.
