A contract for the extension of the Prelog Secondary School building was signed in the school’s premises, officially marking a new step in the modernisation of this educational centre. The contract was signed by Međimurje County Ban Matija Posavec and the director of Hidroing, Danijel Risek, formalising cooperation during the preparatory phase of the project.
The value of the contract itself is €9,325.00, with a completion period for the planned works set at 14 months. This contract concerns the design of the extension, which provides for the construction of a new two-storey space. It is a comprehensive intervention that will bring the school to an infrastructure level it has never previously enjoyed.
The new part of the building will encompass a wide range of functional spaces required for modern vocational education. New classrooms and specialised laboratories are planned, as well as practical spaces adapted for cooking, serving, and confectionery instruction. Additionally, the project includes the construction of a school restaurant and a modern kitchen, which will significantly improve conditions for practical teaching and the acquisition of skills sought in the labour market.
The total estimated value of the entire extension project is approximately €17.35 million. Funding will be achieved through a combination of national and European funds and the Međimurje County’s own resources. The town of Prelog plans to secure additional financial resources to relieve the county of the burden of financing this capital investment.
This project is part of a broader trend of investment in educational infrastructure in Međimurje County. Currently, 40 capital projects are being implemented in the county, of which 22 are related to secondary school buildings. In the previous investment cycle, significant investments were already made in other educational facilities, including the extension of the primary school in Prelog and the adaptation of the grammar school in Čakovec, as well as investments in health infrastructure.
The aim of these investments is to create better conditions for students, teachers, and the local community. Given the development of vocational education, Prelog Secondary School already trains students for a range of professions, including the tourism and hospitality sector. Modern spaces and equipment are key to preparing a workforce ready for the challenges of the modern industry.
