Metković is set to receive a secondary school: a funding agreement valued at up to two million euros was signed in the town hall on Friday, 10 July, the city announced.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Regional Development and European Union Funds, Nataša Mišić, and the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect, Blažo Pezo. The Prime Minister’s Office was represented at the ceremony by Deputy Prime Minister Branko Bačić and the Mayor of Metković, Dalibor Milan.
The project is funded through the state budget via the ‘Regional Development Projects’ capital project. 300,000 euros have been allocated in the 2026 budget. A further one million euros is scheduled for 2027, with an additional 700,000 euros in 2028. The government has laid the groundwork for the project, with a public tender for the selection of the construction contractor expected in the coming period.
Deputy Prime Minister Bačić stated that the signing of the agreement fulfils a long-standing promise that Metković would receive a secondary school. He expressed hope that the new facility would provide quality education to young people from across the county.
The minister described the project as significant for Metković and the Neretva valley. The new school, she said, would support the education of students and the development of talented young musicians. The county prefect highlighted that the county, as the project sponsor, would participate in the implementation. Investments in education, he added, are among the county’s priorities.
The mayor stated that the decision represents an investment in the future of children and young people. By achieving this, he said, a long-standing goal is being met: the opportunity for local young people to continue their education in their own town.
On the same day, the minister presented other funding agreements to the leaders of towns and municipalities in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County. These were approved through calls issued by the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds.
