A child died on Friday afternoon in the eastern part of Zagreba County after falling into a water-filled excavation in an unsecured garden, Zagreb police reported.
According to a statement from the Zagreb Police, the incident occurred on 17 July in the afternoon, most likely during play. The excavation into which the child fell measured 55 by 13 metres and was filled with water approximately one metre deep.
"The child was spotted by a family member who attempted to rescue them, but the child did not survive," the police statement read.
The body was taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Zagreb, where the exact cause of death will be determined.
