Councillors from Mursko Središće have warned that pedestrian safety and the smooth flow of traffic in the town centre are seriously at risk. The issue is located on Ban Josip Jelačić Square, which is in the very heart of Mursko Središće, where daily situations arise that create traffic jams and pose a risk to pedestrians.
Councillor Željka Blagus stated during the current session of the City Council that many residents park their vehicles directly in front of the Tisk kiosk. This blocks the road, forcing other drivers to stop in the middle of the road to wait in line for newspapers or printed material, rather than using the available parking lots located just a few steps away.
Bluš presented a proposal to move the kiosk to a location with easier access, thereby avoiding the blocking of public space. Her concern is based on the fact that this behaviour by drivers repeats regularly, creating an untidy picture in the city centre and hindering the movement of other road users.
Mayor Dražen Srpak confirmed that the described situations are indeed occurring and that he has witnessed the actions of careless drivers. He stressed that people park on the roadway, ignoring the designated parking zones nearby, which he considers unacceptable behaviour that disrupts public order.
The municipal administration has repeatedly attempted to contact the owner of the kiosks, Tisk, asking that the clerk at the counter not serve customers who have arrived by vehicle parked in a prohibited area. However, to address the issue systematically, the police have installed surveillance cameras at the location.
The parking in front of the kiosk is now being actively addressed, with fines being issued to offenders. The municipality has taken administrative measures and given Tsk a deadline of 30 days to permanently resolve the issue, ensuring that the service is not provided to drivers blocking traffic, thereby securing safety and smooth flow in the city centre.
