Residents of the island municipalities of Ugljan and Pašman can now obtain identity cards, passports and driving licences on their own island. Previously, for these administrative tasks, they had to travel to Zadar, which required additional time and costs. With the opening of the new police station in Preko, residents have access to basic services on-site, significantly reducing the time needed to carry out everyday tasks related to documentation.
The newly renovated building in Preko, a settlement in Zadar County, ensures a year-round police presence. The service includes the work of the maritime police, contributing to continuous protection and security in this part of the Zadar archipelago. This step represents a significant shift in the accessibility of state services for island residents, who often face challenges related to geographical isolation.
The project, realised as a joint initiative of the state, Zadar County and the island municipalities, required significant investment. More than €270,000 was invested in renovating the premises. The funds secured modern conditions for the work of officials and the provision of services to citizens, thereby raising the standard of administrative support on the islands.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović visited the newly renovated police station. His visit confirmed the importance of this project for improving security and administrative accessibility in the region. The opening of the station is part of a broader strategy to improve infrastructure and services in the Zadar archipelago.
