In Pakrac and Lipik, a special tribute was paid to fallen Croatian defenders on Victory and Independence Day. On this occasion, candles were lit as a sign of deep gratitude, with particular attention paid to the memory of Ivan Perić, Stjepan Bukovac, and Davor Valentić.
The final resting places of the fallen defenders were visited by Božidar Antolec, the local head, in the presence of local council members. Also present for the visit were members of the Committee for Croatian Defenders, led by its chairman, Željko Sklep. Special attention was given to the resting place of Davor Valentić, where members of the committee were joined by other attendees.
This act paid tribute to all who gave their lives for the creation and defence of the Croatian state. The lighting of candles is a symbol of gratitude for peace and freedom, but also a reminder of the heavy sacrifices made necessary for the liberation of the territory during the Homeland War.
Special emphasis was placed on the role of younger generations in preserving historical truth. It is considered that the responsibility falls on their shoulders to preserve the memory of the fallen defenders and to honour with respect the values upon which the current state is founded.
The younger generation is left with the task of not only remembering the events, but actively passing on the truth about the Homeland War. Through this legacy, it is intended that historical memories, rather than being forgotten, become the foundation for the future of Croatian society.
