On the occasion of Victory Day and the Day of Remembrance, a solemn commemoration was held in Novigrad for the fallen and deceased veterans of the Homeland War. The central part of the observance focused on laying wreaths and lighting candles at the local cemetery, where numerous residents and representatives of various associations gathered.
The wreath was laid by representatives of the City of Novigrad, veterans' associations, the anti-fascist association from the Bužin area, and the Croatian Navy. On behalf of the local authorities, the wreaths were laid by Mayor Ante Miloš and his deputy, Andrea Zankola, in the presence of several city councillors.
In his address, Mayor Ante Miloš highlighted that the commemoration of Victory Day is a special opportunity to pause, reflect on the past, and express sincere gratitude to those who had the courage to stand in defence of the homeland. He stressed that they are remembering those who made it possible for everyone to live in free and independent Croatia.
Miloš specifically highlighted the recently deceased Novigrad veteran, Alen Belušić, to whom the town had recently paid its respects. The mayor stated that it is the duty of each of us to never forget the sacrifice of these individuals, and that their memory is preserved through their work, integrity, and care for the community.
