The municipality of Nedelišće marked the Day of Victory and Thanksgiving and the Day of Croatian Defenders on 5 August 2026. The solemn activities were held in Nedelišće to pay tribute to all Croatian defenders and victims of the Homeland War.
The ceremony began at 7:00 am with a mass at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Nedelišće. The faithful prayed together in memory of all those who had contributed to the defence of the country.
Following the mass, at 8:30 am, a ceremony was held to lay a wreath and light candles at the memorial for Croatian Defenders in the Homeland War. The memorial is located opposite the municipal building in Nedelišće and is dedicated to the defenders of Croatia in the period from 1991 to 1995.
The wreath was laid by the municipal president, Nikola Novak. Alongside the president, candles were lit by representatives of the municipal council, local neighbourhood committees, and various associations. Among those present were representatives of the Association of Volunteers and Veterans of the Homeland War, the branch in Nedelišće, the Association of Defenders of the Military Police in the Međimurje County, as well as other local community representatives.
Following the ceremony, President Novak highlighted the enduring gratitude owed to all Croatian defenders. In his view, it was through their courage, dedication, and love for the country that they secured the freedom and independence of the Republic of Croatia. The municipality of Nedelišše thus paid tribute to all participants and victims of the Homeland War.
