Dr Tomisl Dominis is a urologist at the local hospital in Zadar, where he has been employed since 2007. He has nearly two decades of experience in the specialty, which he chose towards the end of his studies.

In 2021, he suffered a spinal cord injury, after which he remained paraplegic. The injury occurred in his early forties. Despite this, he continues to work and operates from a wheelchair.

He stated that he has not abandoned medicine or urology. However, he explained that the range of operations he can perform has been reduced. Some procedures, which require foot pedals, are no longer feasible, so he has focused more on outpatient work.

He praised the late head of the department, Dr Sori, and the hospital for accommodating him and allowing him to return to the operating theatre. A vertical positioning device was installed, an electrical device that positions him in an upright stance, enabling him to reach the operating table. Thanks to the device, he is still able to operate.

After several months spent in rehabilitation, he found himself in the role of a patient for the first time, experiencing the hospital and treatment from the other side. Dr Dominis has three children.
