Health Minister Irena Hrstić visited the new Central Operating Block at Varaždin General Hospital (Opća bolnica Varaždin) on Wednesday, which opened in mid-June. The investment in the building exceeds €45 million.
Of this, €43 million was funded through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The remaining €2 million was secured from the budget of Varaždin County.
The new 12,000-square-metre facility includes operating theatres, intensive care units, and departments of anaesthesiology, sterilisation, radiology and transfusion medicine, as well as a laboratory. A helipad on the roof has already received approval for operation from the Croatian Civil Aviation Agency.
The minister was accompanied on the visit by Varaždin County Ban Anđelko Stričak, hospital director Damir Poljak, president of the County Assembly Krunoslav Lukačić, his deputy and mayor of Novi Marof Siniša Jenkač, and head of health Ljubica Božić.
According to data from Varaždin County, more than €142 million was invested in health infrastructure in the county between 2016 and 2020.
