Dubrovnik-Neretva County has been awarded €785,000 in non-repayable funds from the European Regional Development Fund, it was announced on Monday. The money is intended for the purchase of medical equipment and the outfitting of health centres and emergency medical services in the county area.

The funds will be used to acquire modern medical and diagnostic-therapeutic equipment for the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Health Centre. The equipment is destined for outpatient clinics in Dubrovnik, Korčula and Ploče, as well as the municipalities of Konavle, Trpanj, Ston and Mljet. It will also be used in the branches of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County Emergency Medical Institute in Orebić, Ploče and Korčula.

The county states that this contributes to reducing territorial inequalities in access to healthcare and alleviating the burden on the hospital system. A greater number of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures will be able to be carried out in health centres and emergency medical services.

The project contributes to the modernisation of health infrastructure and the improvement of working conditions for health workers. It also increases the availability of diagnostics and therapy for the population in local communities, particularly those further from hospital facilities.

The county previously secured €900,000 for outpatient clinics in Janjina, Metković and Vela Luka through the project “Strengthening the capacity of primary and specialist-consultative healthcare in Dubrovnik-Neretva County – Group 1”. The contract was handed to County President Blaž Peza in Dubrovnik by State Secretary in the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds Zrinka Raguž.
