In the streets of Miroslava Krleže and Tina Ujevića, a total of 56 new parking spaces have been created, including two designated for people with disabilities. The works, valued at €147,747 including VAT, were funded by the City of Varaždin, with the work carried out by PZC Varaždin.
In Tina Ujevića Street, at house numbers 1 and 5, a new road structure was built with a cushion layer, curbs were installed, drainage was installed, the road surface was asphalted, and horizontal and vertical traffic signs were placed. In Miroslava Krleže Street, at numbers 2, 4, and 6, the parking areas were constructed using concrete grass pavers.
The deputy mayor, Miroslav Marković, stated that the number of cars per household is rising, so the city is addressing the shortage of parking spaces in residential zones by building new ones. "We intend to increase their number in residential areas wherever possible in the coming years," Marković said.
He added that, alongside the new parking spaces, priority is given to planting trees and preserving greenery, in order to mitigate the effect of urban heat islands. The city, he said, does not wish to solve the parking problem at the expense of green areas.
The city administration states that it is simultaneously investing in cycling infrastructure and improved public transport, and that it aims to encourage residents to use more sustainable forms of transport, although it is expected that the new parking spaces will reduce congestion in these neighbourhoods.
