The Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the General Hospital "Dr. Anđelko Višić" in Bjelovar has seen significant improvements in capacity and staffing. The hospital has received a fully renovated operating theatre equipped with new systems, creating space for the development of minimally invasive surgery. 430 thousand euros of funds from the Ministry of Health were invested in this renovation and equipping.
The new medical equipment includes new laparoscopic and hysteroscopic systems, as well as a new operating table with accompanying equipment. This technological upgrade allows patients a shorter recovery time and a quicker return to daily activities, aligning with current trends in gynaecological surgery. Minimally invasive procedures are becoming the standard as they enable patients to return to their duties earlier.
From 1 September, the department team was joined by Dr. Ivan Bertović Žunec, a specialist in gynaecology and obstetrics, as well as a subspecialist in fetal medicine and obstetrics. Bertović Žunec arrived in Bjelovar from the Special Hospital Podobnik, where he had worked for the previous four years. He completed his specialisation at the Clinical Hospital Merkur and has 13 years of education and work experience in the field of gynaecology. The doctor chose Bjelovar because he recognised the hospital's and department's vision for development.
The department's current staffing potential consists of nine doctors. In addition to the new team member, there are three trainees on the department, two of whom are assigned specifically to this department, while one is linked to the Health Centre. One doctor on the department is soon to retire, but Director Dr. Sanela Grbaš Bratković has announced the continuation of hiring new doctors.
The head of the department is Dr. Goran Pavlović, and Hospital Director Dr. Sanela Grbaš Bratković has announced further department refurbishment and investment in new medical equipment. Department development is also evident through procedure statistics. While approximately 35 minor gynaecological procedures were performed annually in 2010, that number rose to around 550 last year.
A similar growth is seen in major surgeries. In 2010, 140 major operations were performed, whereas last year that number exceeded 200. These figures testify to increased demand and the hospital's ability to meet patient needs with more modern equipment and a more qualified staff.
