At the General Hospital in Zagorje and the Croatian Veterans' Hospital on the island of Brač, work on complete air conditioning began on Thursday, 1 October. This is a project announced in August, the implementation of which has now officially started.
The contract was signed on 18 August with the Split-based company Frigooprema, which was awarded the job following a public procurement tender. A month after the contract was signed, preparations began, which have now been completed, and the deadline for the completion of works is 16 months.
Work began with the top floor, with the Internal Medicine Department. According to some estimates, work on one wing of the department should take about a week. This is a health institution that operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with beds in the internal department mostly always full, which further complicates the organisation of work during the execution of works.
The entire pulmonary department had to be moved to other parts of the hospital, which is 27 beds. In the next month, other parts of the internal department will have to be moved. The Croatian Institute of Emergency Medicine in the Krapina-Zagorje County is helping, and the Special Hospital of Krapinske Toplice has met the need to fill its internal beds with patients in need.
Funds for this investment were provided by the Ministry of Health and the Government of the Republic of Croatia. The work was blessed by Fr. Ivica Šturlić, a chaplain at the General Hospital in Zagorje and a chaplain in the Parish of the Holy Trinity in Donja Stubica, before the divine mass in the hospital chapel.
The General Hospital in Zagorje and the Croatian Veterans' Hospital have already been partially air-conditioned. Air conditioning has so far covered operating rooms, maternity wards, laboratories, and emergency departments, as well as other units. This project will expand air conditioning to the entire hospital, i.e. to all patient and working rooms, outpatient clinics, corridors and other spaces.
