Work on the removal of the old baraks in the immediate vicinity of the Opća Bolnica Zabak and the Croatian Veterans' Hospital began on Friday. The demolition work covers the area within the precincts of the two health institutions, continuing the preparation of the site for future infrastructure works.
The work has been entrusted to the company Kopko d.o.o., which was selected as the most economical bidder in an open tender. The contract for the works is worth around €101,000, including value added tax. The selection of the contractor was carried out through a standard tender process to ensure the economic viability of the costs.
This work is just one step in a wider infrastructure project in which the hospital is renovating its premises. The aim is to repair existing structures to create the conditions for the modernisation and expansion of the health institution in that part of the site.
Once the existing structures are removed, a temporary car park will be created on the cleared site, intended exclusively for hospital staff. The resolution of the parking problem is a priority in the first phase of the reconstruction, in order to improve the daily functioning of the institution.
The long-term vision for the site includes the construction of a palliative care centre. In addition to the main building, additional facilities are planned which will enhance the services provided to patients requiring a specific type of treatment and care.
