The city of Slavonski Brod announced that additional measurements were conducted at two industrial facilities. The measurements reportedly indicated the presence of pollutants that local monitoring stations do not measure.

The additional measurements were carried out to determine which pollutants are emanating from industry. The city has requested a statement from the State Inspectorate, which can order additional measures for industrial facilities to prevent the release of these substances into the air.

The county branch of the SDP reacted on Wednesday by requesting the publication of the measurement results. They warn that citizens still do not know which pollutants were measured, in what concentrations, whether prescribed values were exceeded, or if there is a risk to public health.

The SDP asks whether an administrative or criminal report has been filed against the perpetrators if the environmental pollution is unlawful. They highlight the results of the floating particulate matter MP2.5 measurements as particularly concerning, noting that these particles enter the lungs and are carcinogenic.

They state that the citizens of Slavonski Brod have the right to know what they are breathing and that it is not the job of citizens to investigate pollution sources for years, file complaints, visit institutions, and participate in drafting action plans.

The SDP demands that the city of Slavonski Brod publish the measurement results and comment on the fact that existing monitoring stations did not display results identical to the additional measurement, which showed air pollution, despite being required to do so. They also state that the citizens of Slavonski Brod no longer need promises and attempts to solve the problem that fall flat, but rather the truth and concrete steps from state institutions.
