A large swastika and the Ustaše 'U' symbol, along with offensive graffiti and messages, have been written on the building housing the SDP headquarters in Slavonski Brod. The SDP of Brod-Posavina County condemned the graffiti, messages and hate symbols that appeared on the building's facade on Monday.
The party states that this is not the first time its premises have been the target of vandalism. A few months ago, the SDP warned about the emergence of hate speech and the glorification of fascist ideologies on city facades.
The SDP is calling for a reaction from institutions and accountability for the perpetrators. It expects the police and other competent authorities to establish the responsibility of the perpetrators, and all political actors, especially those holding public office, to clearly and unambiguously condemn such actions. They also stated that the condemnation of Nazi and Ustaše symbols must not depend on political affiliation or whose building they are written on.
Sandra Petrović, president of the party's city organisation, stated that this is a serious incident that goes beyond material damage and represents a broader message of hate. She warned that party premises had previously been targeted by similar attacks, and described this incident as one of the largest and most dangerous in recent times.
Petrović said that identifying the perpetrators and assessing the material damage is the responsibility of the competent authorities, but emphasised that it is also important to publicly condemn the act itself. She stated that this is not an isolated incident, but a message with much greater significance, adding that such symbols and hate messages have no place on political party buildings or in any other part of public space.
The party has reported the case to the police and municipal order services, expecting them to determine who is behind the graffiti and clarify the circumstances of the event. The SDP also stated that it will not stop warning about hate speech, intolerance and attempts to normalise fascist symbols, and will remove the graffiti and restore the facade.
