The local branch of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Vukovar has issued a statement in which it urges residents to refrain from attending the concert by Marko Perković Thompson. The event is scheduled for 28 August, and the party considers it inappropriate to hold the event in the public space of the city.
In its explanation, the local social democrats state that Thompson’s performances are accompanied by an aggressive and fascist-style campaign. According to their account, this atmosphere is inconsistent with the values advocated by the SDP, and they view the atmosphere created as unsuitable for a modern society.
The party states that the concerts of Marko Perković Thompson cause discomfort among a significant portion of the population. This assessment is based on the conviction that a large number of residents of Vukovar, given the historical context of the city, perceive the symbols and messages associated with the performer as offensive.
The SDP warns that holding the concert could lead to a return to a time of hatred and division for the city. The party believes that such an event could worsen the already fragile social climate in Vukovar, rather than contributing to the reconciliation of all citizens.
