Marko Perković Thompson’s concert will take place in Vukovar on Saturday, with organisers and local authorities expecting more than 100,000 visitors. Mayor Marijan Pavliček gave a statement on preparations on Wednesday, emphasising that due to the humanitarian nature of the event, the funds raised would be directed towards the construction of the "12th Croatian Gendarmerie" football stadium and the Salesian Province student dormitory in Zagreb.
Although it is estimated that a large number of people will attend the concert itself, it is not expected that all 100,000 people will be present within the concert venue. Some guests are coming primarily for the atmosphere and socialising, which significantly affects the dynamics of movement at the location. The exact number of tickets sold is currently unknown, but tickets remain available for purchase via social media.
Due to the expected large influx of visitors, special traffic and parking regulations have been introduced, which will be in force from 27 to 29 August. The main access routes for event participants are the D55 state road, which connects Županja and Vinkovci, and the D2 road. For parking needs, organised car parks with a total area of 19 hectares have been provided, in order to reduce the burden on local infrastructure.
Given that all accommodation capacity in Vukovar and surrounding towns is already fully booked, guests are forced to seek alternatives. Many are staying with friends or in more distant settlements, while some visitors are choosing neighbouring Serbia where accommodation prices are lower. In order to meet the needs of the large number of people who will be staying in the city, the opening hours of hospitality venues have been extended until 4am.
