The 'Dunja' nursery was officially opened on 1 September, meeting the need for new capacity in the municipality of Gunja. This facility, which was established as a branch of the Maslačak nursery in the neighbouring municipality, is located in eastern Croatia, close to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The new building covers more than 500 square metres, providing adequate conditions for children's stay.
The newly opened nursery has a capacity of 32 children, distributed across two groups. The pre-school programme is designed for 20 children, while a nursery group is provided for the remaining 12 children. Demand for this service was high, as evidenced by the fact that 46 applications were received in response to the public call, significantly exceeding the number of available places.
Construction of this facility began with the preparation of project documentation in 2018, and the building permit was issued a year later. Construction work began in 2021. The total investment is estimated at €1.3 million, reflecting the scope and quality of the works carried out and the equipment of the premises.
Financial support for the project was provided by a mix of state and local funds. The state budget, through funds from the State Office for Demography and Youth, secured €600,000. The municipality of Gunja, as a local self-government unit, contributed almost €300,000, thereby ensuring the stability and sustainability of the new care centre in this region.
Four educators, one cleaner and one cook are currently employed at the 'Dunja' nursery. The institution is managed by Director Adela Vinković, who is responsible for the daily functioning and quality of the educational work with children.
