The Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds has issued a decision approving co-financing for the project titled "Reconstruction and equipping of the existing public building, Children's House". The project lead, the town of Pazin, has secured the conditions for the implementation of the works, which will significantly improve local services for families. The total value of the project is 2.645.000,00 eura, of which the town of Pazin is providing the remaining 400 eura, while the rest is financed exclusively from European funds, specifically through the integrated territorial programme 2021–2027 and mechanisms of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The project team, which includes the Istria Development Agency as a partner, plans a thorough modification of the building of the former "Olga Ban" nursery, also known as the lower nursery building. The aim is to create a modern, accessible and multi-purpose space intended primarily for children, but also for parents and experts. Particular emphasis is placed on the accessibility of facilities for children with developmental disabilities, thereby ensuring equal rights for all users. Multiple-purpose spaces are planned within the premises, including workshops, as well as spaces for individual expert work, counselling and therapy.
The physical works encompass not only the interior but also the landscaping of the associated outdoor space. The courtyard will take on a new functional role through its development as a multi-purpose educational and play space outdoors, equipped with children's playgrounds, sensory facilities and landscaped green areas. This approach enables the organisation of various activities, from play to educational workshops, promoting the socialisation of children and family bonding.
The main objective of this investment is to increase the availability of high-quality services and expert support, thereby directly improving the quality of life for children and their families in the area of Pazin and beyond. The project is not only a physical upgrade, but also a stimulus for the development of new content and the promotion of cooperation between various institutions, civil society organisations and experts in the fields of social care, health and education.
Following the decision, standard procurement procedures for the selection of the works contractor will follow. According to the plan, the start of works is expected in autumn 2026, while the completion of the project and the official opening of the new Children's Centre is expected in early 2028.
