The sports building on the sports grounds at Omladinska Street bb in Čazma, better known to locals as the "balloon", will open its doors on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, at 11:00. The renovated facility has received a new coat of arms, from the floor covering to the roof structure and lighting.
The hall is intended for sports clubs and citizens who engage in sport recreationally, and it enables activities such as volleyball, futsal, badminton, tennis and handball. The City of Čazma manages the facility.
Works were carried out from 16 February to 29 May 2026. They included the replacement of the existing floor covering with a modern PVC floor, the reconstruction of the wall and roof covering in the form of sandwich panels with mineral wool insulation, and the replacement of the existing lighting with more energy-efficient LED lighting.
The previous sports building was covered with canvas, which resulted in extremely high temperatures, particularly during the summer months. During the execution of the works, it was determined that the support columns were in extremely poor condition, as they were completely rotten, so it was necessary to carry out additional works that were not included in the initial cost estimate. During the summer months and September, additional measures were carried out to rectify minor irregularities in the building.
The City of Čazma initiated this project in 2025 by applying to a public call from the Ministry of Tourism and Sport (Ministarstvo turizma i sporta) titled "Public call for expression of interest for co-financing the construction and reconstruction of sports buildings for 2026". After signing the contract with the Ministry, a public procurement procedure was conducted. The company VINTER GRADNJA d.o.o. was selected as the contractor, and the company HM Projekti d.o.o. carried out the professional supervision.
The total value of the works carried out is €700,894.59 including VAT, or €560,715.67 excluding VAT. The Ministry of Tourism and Sport co-financed the project with €400,000.00, while the remaining €300,894.59 was secured by the City of Čazma from the city budget.
The sports building will operate from 15:00 to 22:00 from Monday to Friday, and will be open from 09:00 to 21:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. The official price list is available on the City's website, and applications and information can be obtained on telephone number 097/ 7410-134.
