Two workshops as part of the ACTIVE project were held on Wednesday, 28 October, on Korčula, organised by the Regional Agency DUNEA, which is also one of the project partners. The workshops brought together pupils from Blato Primary School and residents of the Vela Luka Home for the Elderly, with the aim of promoting healthy habits and an active life at all stages of life.

At Blato Primary School, teacher Kristina Sardelić gave the pupils an introductory lecture on planting plants and their importance for life on Earth. They then applied what they had learned in the school garden, where they planted fruit trees and ornamental shrubs. The activities continued with sports and games on the playground, which was renovated as part of the ACTIVE project.

At the Vela Luka Home for the Elderly, residents walked in the sun and fresh air, either independently or with the help of professional staff, according to their individual capabilities. Master of Kinesiology Petar Dragojević gave a short lecture on the benefits of an active life and spending time in nature in the third stage of life. Both workshops concluded with socialising over a healthy snack.

The workshops on Korčula are a continuation of activities by the Regional Agency DUNEA to promote the development of healthy habits among children, young people and the elderly. Special emphasis is placed on proper nutrition, obesity prevention and regular physical activity, alongside raising awareness of the importance of environmental protection.

The ACTIVE project also includes numerous sports activities for the local population. The Sports Community of Dubrovnik-Neretva County organises football, water polo and table tennis tournaments, as well as trail races in several island locations. A sports hall is being built in Ston, and 11 sports playgrounds are being equipped and set up in the areas of Pelješac, Korčula and Lastovo.

The project lead is the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, with partners including the Regional Agency DUNEA and the Sports Community of Dubrovnik-Neretva County. The total value of the project is 5,894,283.21 euros, and it is financed within the framework of the Integrated Territorial Programme 2021 – 2027.
