The HNK Ivan pl. Zajac in Rijeka has launched the 'Zaich in Your Town – Let us be together' project, which connects theatre professionals with young people and retirees from Delnice, Opatija and Krk.
The project is implemented through five workshops where participants create content based on their own stories, experiences and the specificities of their localities through drama exercises. The final content will be performed in their respective towns.
In Delnice, students from the Delnice Secondary School and members of the Delnice Retirees' Association are participating. The Opatija group consists of students from the OŠ 'Rikard Katalinić Jeretov', volunteers from the Red Cross and people of the third age from the Liburnia region. The project in Krk involves students from the 'Hrvatski Kralj Zvonimir' Secondary School and users of the Mali Kartec Elderly Home.
The workshops are led by Leon Lučev, Karlo Hubak and Maja Ležić. Lučević stated that the groups are mixed: primary school students, high school students and retirees. He added that people are motivated and eager to express themselves creatively through acting workshops.
'The goal is to create several dramatic situations with the participants in which they can freely and easily express themselves emotionally,' said Ležić, noting that everyone is currently moving in the right direction.
The project is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media as a public development programme, under the leadership of Katja Mažuran. The aim is to bring theatre closer to smaller communities and encourage citizens to participate in the creation of theatre content.
