The Čazma Cultural Centre is presenting a new exhibition titled "Architecture of Plant Anatomy" by Nikola Koletić. The display guides visitors into the invisible world of flora through a fusion of scientific microscopy and artistic photography.
The exhibition opening will take place on Thursday, 22 October, at 19:00 at the Čazma Cultural Centre. The exhibition remains open until 14 November 2026, and visitors can view it during the Cultural Centre's opening hours with free admission.
The focus of the display is on the microscopic structures of the plant body: cells, tissues, vascular systems, pollen grains and sporangia. Under the light of a microscope, these structures are transformed into abstract compositions of colour, shape and symmetry.
The photographs are the result of long-term research and work with plant preparations. By applying histological staining and high magnifications, the hidden structures of plants, algae and fungi reveal patterns that resemble geometric grids and architectural drawings.
The visual and aesthetic experience of the exhibition is enriched by a video work documenting the process of creating the photographs. The video brings laboratory procedures such as sample preparation, embedding in wax, sectioning on a microtome and staining with histological dyes closer to the viewer.
The author of the exhibition is Nikola Koletić (1989), a biologist and independent artist, who currently serves as vice-president of the Croatian Botanical Society.
