The exhibition 'Croatian Landscape' was opened at the Museum of the Cetina Region in Sinj on Saturday evening. The cultural event, organised in collaboration with the Association for the Preservation and Development of Croatian Traditional Culture 'Stećak', represents one of the key events in the programme marking the 70th anniversary of the museum institution. The exhibition is open to the public until 15 September 2026.
The primary aim of the display is to present the richness and diversity of the landscape, highlighting its importance in shaping cultural and national identity. The exhibition is held in the context of two significant historical anniversaries: the 950th anniversary of the coronation of King Dmitar Zvonimir and the 1,050th anniversary of the death of Queen Jelena. The works thus fit into the broader project 'Croatian Kings and Their Land in Contemporary Expression'.
Numerous guests attended the opening, with the director of the museum, Daria Domaz, addressing the assembly. The exhibition was officially opened by the curator and senior curator of the museum, Ana Librenjak. The artistic and historical context of the display was discussed by Tomislav Buntak, a painter and former dean of the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, and Dr Anđelko Mihanović, an art historian and professor at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Split.
A special contribution to the event was made by Zvonko Martić, a Carmelite friar and vice-president of the 'Stećak' Association, which has been operating for 14 years. His participation highlighted the importance of the association in preserving traditional culture and its collaboration with cultural institutions in the Dalmatian hinterland.
The display features works by ten prominent artists, including Tomislav Buntak, Svetlana Cvetković, Sebastijan Dračić, Fedora Fischer, Danko Fršić, Karin Grenc, Koraljka Kovač, Vida Meić, Matko Vekić, and Josip Zank. Their works, through contemporary expression, explore and interpret the Croatian landscape in the context of historical and cultural references.
