The Museum of Arts and Crafts and the Gallery of Fine Arts in Split will open the exhibition Gallery on the Street on Friday, 16 October 2026, at the MUO Gallery in Ilica 163a, Zagreb. The exhibition presents a selection of exhibition posters from the interwar period of Salon Galić, drawn from the holdings of the Split Gallery of Fine Arts, and opens at 20:00.

The display features author-designed printed and unique, hand-painted posters created during the interwar period. The exhibition’s author and curator is Dr Lovorka Magaš Bilandžić, and the exhibition was produced in collaboration between Zagreb’s Museum of Arts and Crafts and Split’s Gallery of Fine Arts.

The exhibition opening will be preceded by the presentation of the monograph Salon Galić 1924–2024, scheduled for 18:00. The monograph was published jointly by the Croatian Association of Fine Artists – Split and the Gallery of Fine Arts, marking the centenary of Salon Galić, and contains texts by four art historians.

In the monograph, Dr Sandi Bulimbašić illuminates the history and various aspects of the Salon’s operation during the lifetime of Ivan Galić, and provides a revised and updated list of exhibitions held at the Salon from 1924 to 1961. Dr Lovorka Magaš Bilandžić writes about the Salon’s visual identity and graphic design of posters, invitations and catalogues in the period between the two world wars, while Dr Darija Alujević examines the points of contact between Salon Galić and Zagreb’s Salon Ullrich. Dr Dalibor Prančević writes about the history of the Salon in the second half of the 20th century, under the direct management of the united artists’ association, thereby presenting for the first time the history of the Salon in that period.

The copy editor is Ivana Majer, the translator Robertina Tomić, and the graphic designer Viktor Popović. The monograph will be presented by the reviewer Dr Petar Prelog, the editor and author Dr Sandi Bulimbašić, authors Dr Darija Alujević and Dr Lovorka Magaš Bilandžić, and the director of the Gallery of Fine Arts Jasminka Babić.

During the interwar period, artists including Emanuel Vidović, Angjeo Uvodić, Ivan Mirković, Marino Tartaglia, Ignjat Job, Juraj Plančić, Jerolim Miše, Vjekoslav Parać and others exhibited at Salon Galić. The collection of exhibition posters from Salon Galić in the holdings of the Gallery of Fine Arts in Split constitutes the largest surviving corpus of solutions intended for advertising the exhibition activities of a museum or gallery institution in Croatia between the two world wars.
