American influencer, musician and content creator Justus Reid was working on renovating a garage on his property in Zagorje when he heard barking and whining from a neighbouring, abandoned shed for weeks. He decided to investigate and found a black crossbreed dog chained with a rope only about 1.5 metres long.

The dog had no proper bed or shelter, spending her days confined to a very small space, unable to run freely or explore the surroundings. Reid spoke with neighbours to find out what had happened. According to their explanation, the dog had been chained for approximately three months because she was allegedly attacking their chickens. Since being chained, the dog had not been allowed to move freely.

Reid went to get basic supplies for the dog, then returned with a collar and leash to retrieve her. After being freed, the dog was able to stretch her legs and feel the freedom.

Reid sent a message to his followers urging them not to bombard the neighbours with insults and hate messages. He emphasised that the neighbours had eventually agreed to let him take the dog and stated that his goal was to help the animal, not to incite conflict.

Reid placed the dog in his car and drove her to a veterinarian, where she received a microchip, a passport and necessary vaccinations. According to the veterinary assessment, she was just over a year old. Reid then called a friend with his well-trained dog so the animals could meet, and the encounter went better than Reid had hoped. The dog was given the chance to run and explore nature on Reid’s property, and followers noted in the comments that the experienced dog patiently guided the younger one.

The dog also visited a local dog groomer. Bathing was a new experience for her, but despite the discomfort, she remained calm while Reid comforted and stroked her. By the end of the day, she had a warm place to rest, safety and a peaceful night’s sleep in a house.

Reid admitted that due to his lifestyle and numerous commitments, he cannot provide the dog with a long-term home. Through his social media, he called on people from Zagreb, Hrvatsko Zagorje and Varaždin who are considering adopting a dog to contact him. Following the post, messages of support and inquiries from interested potential adopters began to arrive.
