The Agency for Medicinal Products and Medical Devices (HALMED), in collaboration with the pharmaceutical company Gedeon Richter, has issued an official letter to healthcare workers in Croatia. The communication aims to inform about potential health risks associated with certain treatments.
The main message concerns the potential development of meningioma, a type of tumour, in patients taking specific medications. Experts highlight that the use of certain pharmaceutical products may increase the risk of this condition developing. This requires heightened attention from doctors and other healthcare professionals when prescribing treatment.
Special attention is directed towards medications containing the active substances desogestrel or etonogestrel. These are preparations primarily used for hormonal contraception. Given that this is a widely used method of preventing pregnancy, informing users and healthcare providers about potential side effects is crucial for the safe application of these preparations.
