The Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ) has issued a warning to employers and agencies employing foreign workers, highlighting the strict health conditions for entry and stay in the country. This measure aims to ensure that all incoming workers meet the required hygienic-epidemiological standards before commencing work in the Croatian market.
According to the new guidelines, citizens of third countries who require a visa for entry into the Republic of Croatia are required to undergo the necessary health checks prior to arrival. This obligation applies exclusively to the process of obtaining the first temporary residence, meaning the documentation must be prepared in the worker’s home country, not upon arrival in Croatia.
The measures primarily affect workers from countries such as India, Bangladesh, the Philippines, Egypt, and Uzbekistan. For these nationalities, preparing the medical documentation becomes a key step in the administrative hiring process, as the process cannot begin without the timely submission of the required documents.
The final consequence of failing to comply with this requirement is the inability to enter the country. Without a valid health certificate, foreign workers will not be able to enter Croatia, placing an obligation on employers and recruitment agencies to verify and prepare all documents before organising the workers' travel.
