The police and the State Inspectorate carried out a joint inspection at a trading company in the Čazma area, covering 62 workers. The individuals checked were citizens of Nepal and India, and the inspection aimed to verify the company's compliance with current regulations.
During the inspection, significant irregularities related to the accommodation of foreign workers were identified. Inspectors noted that the workers were living in inappropriate conditions, which constitutes a breach of prescribed standards for the stay and work of foreigners in the Republic of Croatia.
Despite the identified violations regarding living conditions, official checks showed that all inspected workers held proper and valid permits for stay and work in the country. This means that the foreigners themselves met the administrative requirements for their stay, but the issue lies in the treatment provided by the employer.
Given the established facts, the competent authorities have decided on further steps. An indictment will be filed against the employer, initiating criminal proceedings for the offence committed.
The indictment is filed solely due to a breach of the Foreigners Act. Through this action, the authorities have confirmed that any irregular treatment of foreign workers will be strictly sanctioned, particularly concerning their basic living conditions.
