Police officers and representatives of the State Inspectorate conducted a joint inspection at a company in the area of Čazma, establishing that the firm was violating regulations regarding the accommodation of foreign nationals. The operation, carried out on Friday, 31 July, aimed to verify the compliance of the entity employing foreign workers. During the inspection, it was revealed that the company was housing 62 foreign workers in unsuitable conditions.
The workers subject to the inspection were from Nepal and India. Although the accommodation conditions were inadequate, the inspectorate confirmed that all controlled workers held valid permits for residence and work in the Republic of Croatia. This confirmed that they met the legal requirements for lawful residence, but their physical placement did not meet the prescribed standards.
The operation involved police officers specialising in illegal migration from the Čazma, Daruvar, and Bjelovar stations, supported by the Public Order and Security Service. In addition to the police, the inspection was conducted by labour and occupational health and safety inspectors from the regional office of the State Inspectorate. Through their joint action, it was determined that the Act on Aliens had been violated, primarily in the section concerning the accommodation conditions of workers.
Based on the identified irregularities, the State Inspectorate will submit a criminal complaint against the company and the responsible person to the County Court in Bjelovar. The complaint relates to a breach of the Act on Aliens, and the employer will face criminal or administrative proceedings depending on the severity of the offence. The inspection thus sends a clear message that substandard worker accommodation is not tolerated, regardless of whether the workers hold the necessary permits.
