Županja is currently marking the centenary of the match between Cibal and Graničar, alongside the 125th anniversary of the oldest Croatian football club, Bačka Subotica.

On Wednesday, 14 October, at 16:00, a friendly match between NK Graničar and HNK Ciboria Vinkovci will take place at the Spomen Stadium, the site of the first football game in Croatia. The match is held in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the meeting between the two clubs.

The Vinkovci side, then champions of the Osijek sub-division of the regional football association, faced off against the Županja side on 10 October 1926, a historic moment now being commemorated at the location where football was first played in Croatia.

The central ceremony will take place at 20:00 at the Vinkovci City Library and Reading Room. Alongside the centenary of the match, the 125th anniversary of the establishment of the oldest Croatian football club, Bačka Subotica, will also be celebrated.

Visitors will be able to view the oldest football in Croatia, kept by the Županja City Museum, as well as football boots and balls from the 1920s and 1940s. Exhibited will also be photographs of matches played by Bačka against Ciboria and Sloga, along with newspaper articles from those matches.

A special feature will be a 10-minute film from 1926, made to mark the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Bačka sub-club.

The programme includes Darko Stojanović (Stoja), president of the LaRoš Association; Hrvoje Tkalac, director of the City Museum in Županja; and Dražen Prćić, a writer and great-grandson of the founder of the Bačka Subotica football club. The event will also be addressed by Mladen Crnai, president of HNK Cibal, and Ivan Užarević, president of NK Graničar.

In the musical segment, Darko Jakuš – Jale will perform. Organisers are inviting all football fans and lovers of sporting history to join in the celebration of these significant anniversaries.
