The town of Krk will mark the 455th anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto in early October through a multi-day programme titled 'The Tale of the Galley Cristo Resurrected'. The programme is dedicated to maritime heritage and the Krk galley, which took part in the historic battle of 1571.

The project was initiated by the Krk City Centre in 2008 with the aim of preserving the memory of the Krk galley Cristo Resurrecto and its role in the Battle of Lepanto. This year's programme begins on Thursday, 1 October, at 6 pm with the presentation of the book Warships: Rise and Fall by Dr Branko Belamarić. The book provides an overview of the development of warships, maritime military history and the policies of major world powers.

On Friday, 2 October, at 6 pm, the international exhibition 'Adriatic and Ionian Shipbuilding in the Modern Era (1650–1850)' by Dr Zrinka Podrška-Čizmek will open at the Decumanus Gallery. The exhibition will remain open until 22 October, resulting from extensive research into historical sources on ships and seafaring in the Adriatic and Ionian regions. On the same day at 8 pm, the ensemble Responsorium will perform 'Splendida Stella: Musical Echoes of Holiness in 17th-Century Venice'.

The programme continues on Saturday, 3 October, at the Maritime Heritage Interpretation Centre on the island of Krk. From 6 pm, Željko Skomeršić will present a selection from the collection dedicated to historical clocks and other maritime artefacts, and at 8 pm, the Klapa Kaštadi from Poljica will perform 'One Sea, a Thousand Songs' on the Kamplin Square.

The closing ceremony will take place on 7 October, on the very anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto, when a mass for the fallen will be held in the Krk Cathedral at 7 pm. From 1 to 5 October, a commemorative information panel about the history of the galley and its commander will be placed next to the tomb of Ljudevit Čikuta, commander of the Krk galley Cristo Resurrecto. Entry to the book presentation, exhibition, guided tours and concerts is free.
