Split is marking the 35th anniversary of the Naval Battle for Split, one of the significant episodes of the Homeland War on the Adriatic. On this occasion, a forum titled “Croatia Calls You” (10) will be held in the city, dedicated to the events of 1991, the role of Croatian defenders and the defence of Split and the Croatian coast during the Homeland War.
The forum is organised by the Split Branch of the Croatian Matica (Matica hrvatska) and the Croatian Society of Historians “Dr. Rudolf Horvat”. It will take place on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, from 18:00 to 20:00, in the hall of the Dominican Monastery in Split, at 2 Hrvojeva Street.
Participants will include Dr Mihovil Biočić, a surgeon and wartime director of the Split Clinical Hospital Centre (KBC Split), and Miroslav Lozina, founder of the Croatian Navy and president of the Croatian Navy Veterans Association “Knez Domagoj”. Also attending will be MSc Stjepan Lozo, a historian, founder and long-time director of the Croatian Maritime Museum in Split, and author of the book “Defence of the Adriatic in the Croatian War for Independence 1991”.
Speakers will discuss the circumstances of the defence of Split, the establishment of the Croatian Navy and the importance of naval operations during the Homeland War. Entry to the forum is free.
Organisers invite citizens, Croatian veterans, historians and all interested parties to attend and contribute to the commemoration of this anniversary.
