The 35th anniversary of the start of the breakthrough of the Dubrovnik blockade was marked in Broc. Representatives from Split, members of S-voda from Omis, and defenders from Ston, Broc, Kobaš, and Dubrovnik gathered to remember the war days and the joint contribution to the defence of the city.

During the most difficult times, volunteers from the Croatian Navy ensured the supply of personnel, weapons, ammunition, and all other necessities required for the besieged Dubrovnik. In 1991, they transported people and supplies to the Šipanska Luka port every night. The transport took place despite the danger of Chetnik boats located in the Elafiti channel.

At one point, even yeast for bread was transported, and daily, despite the danger, Slobodna Dalmacija was delivered. Pelješce was then living for the defence of Dubrovnik.

During the commemoration, Zoran Šimić, the first commander of the Pelješce defence, laid a wreath in the sea from the coast guard boat of the Croatian Navy in memory of all the fallen and deceased comrades. The holy mass was held in the church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Broc.

The meeting was an opportunity to recall the beautiful and sad moments of 1991 and the unity that characterised the creation of free Croatia. From S-voda, or the First Diver Division of the Croatian Navy in Omis, they said: 'Today we remembered the beautiful and sad events in the creation of our Homeland with our brothers from '91. Greetings to the volunteers from Ston, Broc, Kobaš, and Dubrovnik. It was nice to see you today!'

Volunteers from Ston, Broc, Kobaš, Dubrovnik, Split, and Omis once again highlighted the importance of preserving the memory of all those who participated in the defence of Dubrovnik and helped its residents in the hardest moments. From the Association of Veterans of the Croatian Navy in Split, they said: 'May eternal glory and thanks be to our fallen and deceased defenders!'
