In Beli Manastir on Saturday, 31 October 2026, the 35th anniversary of the founding of the 135th Baranja Brigade of the Croatian Army will be solemnly commemorated. The organiser of the commemoration is the 135th Baranja Brigade HV Association, and the entire programme is held under the motto “With pride and gratitude”.
The commemoration marks 35 years since the brigade’s founding, which took place on 30 October 1991, during one of the most difficult periods of the Homeland War. As the Association highlights, the commemoration will be an opportunity to recall the brigade’s wartime path, its members and its contribution to the defence of the homeland, while paying tribute to Croatian defenders.
The programme begins at 6 o’clock with a wake-up call, followed by a Mass at 9.30 o’clock in the Church of Saint Martin in Beli Manastir. At 10.30 o’clock, a procession will set off towards Freedom Square, departing from the corner of Osječka Street and King Tomislav Street. During the procession, candles will be lit at the Monument to Defenders, as a sign of remembrance and gratitude to all who participated in the defence of Croatia.
The central part of the commemoration will be the ceremonial assembly at Freedom Square at 11.30 o’clock. The programme then continues at 12.30 o’clock with a ceremonial lunch at Antun Mihanović Square, behind the Billa shopping centre. As part of the commemoration, a tactical-technical assembly (TTZ) will be held at Antun Mihanović Square from 10 to 14 o’clock.
The 135th Baranja Brigade HV Association invites people to jointly commemorate this significant anniversary, with a message of pride and gratitude to all members of the brigade who contributed to the Homeland War.
