The Split para-volley club is marking 20 years of operation, with the central event of the anniversary being the traditional sitting volleyball tournament held in Solin. The tournament, named 'Mediteran 2026', is scheduled for Saturday, 19 September, with the ceremonial opening set for 10:00.
The competition is an international sitting volleyball event held in celebration of the club's 20th anniversary, as well as the city day of Solin and the feast of the Assumption. The host venue is the hall at Solin's Bilankuša, and as Dragan Martić, the secretary of the local sitting volleyball club, reports, ten teams will participate in the tournament.
Among the registered teams are UKSO Vukovar, Marsonia, Knin 95, Zadar, Bosna from Zenica, the Croatian women's team, the Slovenian women's team, the Zenica women's team, and the Dalmatia team. The participant lineup thus combines domestic clubs, representative teams, and teams from the region.
The ceremonial opening begins precisely at 10:00, following the performance by the Solin majorettes, after which the first matches will be played at 10:30. The sponsors of the tournament are the Split-Dalmatia County, the cities of Split, Solin, and Kašt, the municipalities of Klis, Dugopolje, Podstrana, and Seget, as well as the Veterans' Centre in Sinj.
The club has been bringing together participants of the Homeland War through resocialisation. This involves people with disabilities who, through sport, 'annul' their physical impairments, as stated by the club. This year's tournament provides an opportunity to present this long-standing activity to the wider public.
