The traditional 'Cmarenje loja' event is being held again this year, organised by the Čukovec Local Council. The gathering is scheduled for Sunday, 1 November, starting at 16:00, in 'Đesijeva gruba' in Čukovec.
This is one of the most recognisable customs of this settlement in the Prelog municipality. The custom is traditionally linked to All Saints' Day, and local tradition involves residents gathering around a fire onto which melted wax, specifically tallow from candles and lanterns, is poured. This creates a characteristic sound and a striking visual spectacle that attracts attention every year.
The custom is passed down from generation to generation and has become a strong symbol of community and the preservation of local tradition. For this reason, the gathering in Čukovec holds a significance that goes beyond a mere social event — it connects residents of different generations and preserves the memory of a custom that has been nurtured in this area for years.
For all visitors, the Local Council has prepared beans, roasted chestnuts, mulled wine and various drinks, so alongside the fire and the characteristic sounds of the tallow, attendees will be able to enjoy a warm meal and drink suitable for autumn evenings.
The Čukovec Local Council invites all residents and guests from neighbouring settlements to join this traditional event. The gathering is scheduled for Sunday, 1 November, starting at 16:00, in 'Đesijeva gruba' in Čukovec.
