Čakovec became a meeting place for different cultures this Saturday, 10 October. The fourth Taste Fest was held in the square behind the Čakovec market, an event gathering food lovers and introducing the people of Međimurje to the gastronomy of other countries.
At the festival, visitors could peek into the kitchens of the Philippines, Nepal, India, Nigeria, Cameroon, Japan and other countries. From 9 to 12 o’clock, they were offered a variety of dishes, the scent of spices and recipes rarely found on the everyday Međimurje menu.
This year’s edition brought a novelty – a pizza corner where the classic favourite is presented in various international versions. Alongside the gastronomic offer, a supporting programme was prepared.
Behind the festival stands the Platform for the Social Centre Čakovec, which initiated the event to give foreign workers the opportunity to participate more actively in the life of the local community and to present the customs and culture they come from. Many have come to Croatia for work and a better future, leaving parents, children and other close ones thousands of kilometres away.
During the festival, people who have come to Međimurje from different parts of the world take on the role of hosts for a few hours, while local residents become their guests. The festival is held with the financial support of Međimurje County and the City of Čakovec.
