India secured an eight-wicket victory in the second One Day International (ODI) against the West Indies in Guwahati, chasing a target of 406 in 43.3 overs. Shubman Gill led the chase with a career-best 223 not out, while Rohit Sharma contributed 101.

The West Indies had previously posted 405 for 7 in 50 overs, their highest total in the history of the format. Jayden Scott made 114, Johnson Charles 104, and Alick Athanaze 101. Scott and Charles added 110 for the second wicket in 79 balls, while Charles and Scotte took 182 for the third wicket. Scotte hit five sixes in his century, and in one over, Prasanth had taken 22 runs.

Gill reached his century in just 62 balls, then reached 200 just 55 balls later. He hit a total of eight sixes and 26 fours. He and Rohit Sharma added 255 for the first wicket. Rohit had scored a century, but was then dismissed lbw on 101. Virat Kohli was out on 29, while Ruturaj Gaikwad joined Gill.

This was only the sixth time in the history of ODI cricket that a team has had three centuries in one innings. Indian bowlers Prasad and N. Dhir suffered injuries during the match. Aqib Nabi received 84 runs on his debut, the fourth-highest number of runs conceded by an Indian debutant in their first ODI appearance.

For the West Indies, the defeat comes as they face financial challenges. Players will have to accept a 25 per cent pay cut as part of wider savings measures, with the team being directed to qualify by the beginning of 2027.
