Croatian international goalkeeper Dominik Livaković made his debut for Barcelona in a 3-1 victory over Seville. Livaković started after Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper, Joan García, was injured in the previous round against Racing Santander. Wojciech Szczęsny had replaced the Catalan in the previous match, but manager Hansi Flick opted for the Croatian tonight.
Livaković was in the Barcelona goal for the first time, although Spanish media had predicted that Wojciech Szczęsny would start. The Croatian goalkeeper received his first shot on goal from Seville. The first save was made in the 45th minute when he stopped a shot from Robbie Ure. The match ended with two saves, 15/18 accurate passes and eight recovered balls.
Spanish journalists asked Flick after the match why he decided to give the opportunity to Livaković over Szczęsny. Flick commented: "Sometimes you don't have to analyse everything, you have to trust your instincts. That was my instinct and we made the decision. It's not that we don't trust Szczęsny, but we felt that Livaković was the better choice. It's not a fixed situation, it was a decision for today's match. For me, it was a difficult situation."
