The GIK team from Dr. Ivan Kranjcevic Gymnasium in Đurđevac achieved outstanding results at the WRO Open Championship 2026, held from 13 to 16 October 2026 at the Zagreb Fair. The students were ranked as the fourth best European team, taking fifth place overall in the competition standings.
Over 220 teams participated, with the victory going to the team from Macau (China). The Croatian representatives were very close to the podium — the GIK team had the same number of points as third-placed Romania and second-placed Turkey. The podium positions were decided by narrow margins and the so-called robot 'goal difference'.
The team consisted of Matija Mihočka, Matej Krčmar, and Filip Gorički, with the team led by mentors Snježana and Nikola Mihočka. The team stated that they were proud and happy with what they had achieved, representing the school and the town of Đurđevac at the competition.
Following the final ceremony, the team was greeted with great applause from local supporters at the Fair, further confirming the significance of their result. The fourth place in Europe and fifth overall, with a point total equal to the second and third placed teams, places the Đurđevac students among the best European robotics teams.
