The Welsh women's rugby team lost to the United States 26-24 in a WXN match. The game was played at Cardiff Arms Park.
Wales were trailing 21-7 at one point, but managed to mount a comeback from a 14-point deficit. The American side, known as the Eagles, ultimately won 26-24.
Wales' head coach Sean Lynn said he saw resilience and effort in his team's performance. He expressed hope for a third consecutive win, but admitted the team needed to be better in other areas. He highlighted that Wales were unable to keep the ball in their possession and that the team's aim was to be competitive throughout the 80 minutes.
Wales had previously defeated South Africa with eight tries, and in the summer had beaten the Barbarians. Despite these successes, the USA are ranked five places above Wales, at sixth on the world rankings.
The Welsh captain, Kate Williams, said the team was disappointed after the match against the USA. She noted that they were present until the 60th minute, and that the feeling was as if they had lost a match they could have won.
Wales now have a week off, after which they will travel to Japan. There, they will face the Sakura Fifteen in two test matches, on 24 October and 31 October.
