Welsh international Seren Lockwood will miss the second match of the WXV Global Series against the USA in Cardiff on Saturday after failing the head injury assessment, the BBC has reported.
Lockwood came off the field during the first half of Wales' victory over South Africa, in which eight tries were scored. She is now going through the World Rugby return-to-play protocol.
Her absence opens the way for Keira Bevan to return to her usual number nine position at the Cardiff Arms Park. Lockwood and Bevan have previously proved a promising partnership in the back row within the new side.
Head coach Sean Lynn said that it is always sad to see a player leave the field, but that the head injury assessment is a good thing and that they are looking after her. "She will not be available this weekend, but I am very much looking forward to the partnership we have this week," Lynn said.
The return of Carys to full fitness following summer knee surgery gives Lynn an additional option in the line, as Cox can play both at centre and on the wing. Lynn highlighted that Carys was excellent in her rehabilitation, feeling more confident, faster and stronger. "Carys always brings a smile, she is always confident and I love her athleticism," he added. "She will always beat the first defender, and with the way we are playing now, she will get the ball in her hands."
The match between Wales and the USA in the WXV Global Series takes place on Saturday, 26 September at 15:00 British time at the Cardiff Arms Park. The broadcast is live on BBC One, iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app, with a text commentary available.
